Student life

The part that keeps people here.

ZAIOVERSE is where our learners actually talk to each other — about the thing they are stuck on at eleven at night, the job they just got, the project they want someone to look at.

What happens in there

  • Getting unstuck

Someone posts the error at eleven at night and someone else has had it before. That is most of it, and it is the most useful part.

  • Showing the work

Projects get posted before they are finished. People say what they would change. Nobody is precious about it.

  • What happens after

Job posts, interview debriefs, first-week nerves. Graduates stay in and answer the questions they were asking a year ago.

Town halls

Every quarter we get everyone in one room and talk about the parts of a career nobody puts in a curriculum. They are streamed, and they stay up.

Questions

Questions people ask.

  • How do I join the Zaio community?

Enrol in any programme and you join your cohort's Discord and the events calendar. Townhalls and open days are free and open to anyone; subscribe to the newsletter for dates.

  • What is a Zaio townhall?

A streamed session with a guest speaker and live Q&A, held every quarter so far; the recordings stay up and anyone can watch.

  • Is the community online only?

No. The Cape Town and Durban Innovation Hubs are open to students, and open days and some events are held there.

  • Is there a Zaio Discord?

Yes. The Zaio Discord is open to anyone. Once you enrol you get private programme channels with tutor support and project reviews.

  • Do graduates stay in the community?

Yes. Graduates keep full Discord access, including the private channels, and are welcome at every event.

  • Does Zaio run hackathons?

Yes. There is a monthly townhall, and hackathons, coding challenges and tech talks run through the year. Dates are on the events page.
